Current Projects Skills and Enterprise Development Skills for Jobs Youth unemployment rate in Kenya averages at 35%. Poor women and youth lack skills and access to capital and markets to grow a business and create jobs. Poor women and young people are enabled to grow their existing small businesses, raise their income, build a sustainable livelihood for themselves and their families, and create employment opportunities for others. Project page Small and Medium Enterprises(SMEs) SMEs have been facing unprecedented income losses and uncertainties about their future because of business disruptions due to the outbreak of COVID-19. Most SMEs do not have financial reserves to meet expenses during emergencies. It also emerged that many Kenyans do not make savings with only 39% of Kenyans have set aside funds to manage emergencies that arise from loss of income. Project page Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation Go Blue The overall project goal is to contribute to coastal economic development in an inclusive, integrated, participatory, and sustainable manner that will strengthen inclusive and sustainable blue economy value chains through skill development and matching, and value chain development. The project will raise incomes and improve working conditions through cooperation with the business and the public sector thereby promoting economic growth by enhancing labour productivity for the reduction of poverty in Kwale, Tana-River, Mombasa, Kilifi and Lamu Counties. Project page Green Economy Promoting integrated farming for increased food security and climate adaptation. The objective is to support innovative and resilient farming methods that will increase food security and contribute to the economic and livelihood development. The young people in particular who are more energized and creative have been given platforms through which they can develop farming structures and increase production. Project Page Renewable Energy Improving employment and economic opportunities for the youth through cooperation with the public and private sectors by supporting young Kenyans to access job opportunities in the renewable energy sector. The project promotes demand-oriented skills and develop a renewable energy talent pool, thereby increasing the number of skilled technicians in the renewable energy sub-sector. Project page Peace and Governance The project empowers men and boys by providing safe spaces to strategically engage in mitigating violence against women. The project fosters collaboration between schools, the police, health and legal service providers and community leaders. It trained community and religious leaders as mentors in violence prevention. Preventing Gender Based Violence Project page Kenya Electoral Conflicts Mitigation & Civic/Voter Education Support Program(ECCES) Kenya Electoral Conflicts Mitigation & Civic/Voter Education Support (ECCES) Program ensures resilience of vulnerable populations and environments is improved, civil society, women and youth successfully participate in democratic processes, lead voter/civic education and implement local strategies to mitigate and respond to electoral violence. The program secures the safety and security of all citizens, safeguarding their human rights, and deepening the inclusion of traditionally marginalized groups e.g. women, youth, and people with disabilities Co-Convenor of the National Peace Actors Forum (PAF) PAF is a coordination platform that steers the peace advocacy and policy agenda by bringing together various peace initiatives, organizations, sectors and leaders engaged and promoting peaceful resolution of Kenya’s diverse conflicts through dialogue, research and building of of synergy. The NMF was born out of the need for a collective, consistent and coordinated voice on an inclusive national dialogue. Project Page Building Community Identity for Change The project aims at promoting peaceful coexistence and the reintegration of youth at risk into the community through dialogues, sports, culture and income generating activities. The project promotes cross learning as a strategy to influence negative perceptions, and behaviour between communities and identity groups in Mombasa County. These include tailor made capacity training on conflict transformation, non-violent communication, problem solving dialogue as alternative to violence as well as trust and confidence building. Project page Accelerated Response Initiative against Violent Extremism (ARIVE) The program aims at addressing the weak P/CVE system, coordination and collaboration across state and non-state actors, high levels of distrust between government and communities persist and the voices of those most at-risk of radicalization and recruitment that goes unheard in the forums, platforms and policies established to build greater resilience to VE. Resilience Peace and Stability (RPS) Resilience Peace and Stability (RPS) is an overall program being support by the royal Danish embassy through Act Change Transform! The project being implemented under RPS is dubbed “strengthening community resilience for peace and security (SCRS) project”. The objectives for the projects is: To strengthen inter group relations between groups and communities affected by conflict (inter-ethnic, intra ethnic, other conflicting in-groups and out-groups). To reduce push/pull factors towards violence among at risk groups through peace messaging, social linkages and transformation platforms for women, youths and vulnerable groups. To strengthen state and non-state peace actor’s coordination on PCVE in Kisumu through capacity building and enhanced cooperation between communities and government agencies based on respect for human rights and good governance. Improving Community Safety and Cohesion in Kisumu The project aims at transforming violent conflicts among the youth at risk by fostering their integration into the community and reducing violent gang and extremist activities that undermine community safety. Enhance communication, collaboration and trust between the police, the county government, local politicians, the civil society and youth at risk of violence and crime. Project Page Climate-Change Governance The projects seeks promote resilient practices that conserve the natural resources by enhancing equitable access, utilization and sharing the natural. through this projects, pastoralist communities and the fisherfolks are organized, trained and provided with alternative knowledge and skills that sustains the use of the natural resources including water, pasture, land through alternative agriculture and aquaculture that improves incomes and livelihood. Everywhere. Everyone. Every Day," key stakeholders, youth leaders, government representatives, and grassroots peacebuilders gathered on the International Day of Peace to reaffirm that sustainable peace requires deliberate, long-term investment. Hosted through Act!’s Resilience, Peace and Stability (RPS) Programme funded by the Embassy of Denmark in Kenya, the commemoration served as a platform for critical reflection on building inclusive and resilient communities as the nation looks toward the 2027 General Election. Strategic Priorities for Peace and Integrity The discussions highlighted that effective peacebuilding cannot rely on reactive measures. To safeguard stability, partners outlined clear operational priorities: Early Participatory Engagement: Shift from high-pressure, last-minute mobilization to sustained civic engagement. Digital Governance & Peace: Elevate digital spaces to a central priority in peace and electoral integrity discussions, leveraging social media for early warning, constructive advocacy, and combating electoral misinformation. Meaningful Youth Negotiation: Move beyond tokenism by ensuring young people have structured platforms to negotiate with political parties and shape issue-based governance agendas. Institutional Trust: Actively strengthen public trust and confidence in electoral institutions well in advance of the 2027 polls. Resourcing Grassroots Peace Structures: Provide reliable support to local networks to ensure durable mechanisms for accountability, dialogue, and community feedback. Institutional Support for Youth-Led Leadership A central moment of the event was the official endorsement of the “Our Voice, Our Peace, Our Future” Peace Memorandum . Developed by girls and young women during the 6th Annual Girls Assembly, the Memorandum outlines strategic commitments concerning political participation, safety, early-warning response, and digital peace. Demonstrating institutional alignment with community initiatives, Kibera Deputy County Commissioner Victor Kamonde officially acknowledged and signed the document. The signing underscored a key principle of the RPS Programme: community-led commitments achieve lasting impact when public institutions stand firmly behind them. Launch of National Peace Campaigns To translate dialogue into broad civic action, the event marked the launch of two national initiatives: Dear Kenya Peace Campaign: A public-engagement movement encouraging personal and collective reflections on national unity and peaceful coexistence. 5 Million Faces Campaign for Peaceful Elections: A citizen-driven movement designed to visualize public commitment to non-violence and civic responsibility leading into 2027. The Road Ahead The commemoration closed with a unified resolution: peace is not merely the absence of conflict but an active practice built through daily choices in homes, workplaces, communities, and digital networks. By engaging in climate smart agriculture, Kenya is likely to open opportunities for employment of women and youth. < Back Celebrating Peace in Action: IDP 2025 Commemorations Unite Kisumu and Nairobi in Shared Vision for National Cohesion Location Kisumu and Nairobi Counties Location Peace and Governance In commemoration of the International Day of Peace (IDP) 2025, communities in Kisumu and Nairobi Counties came together in vibrant, meaningful celebrations that underscored the power of collective action, youth engagement, and grassroots peacebuilding. Organized in partnership with civil society organizations (CSOs), government agencies, faith-based institutions, and international development partners, this year’s theme — “Action Now: Peace in Everyday Life” — was brought to life through dynamic events, dialogues, awards, and symbolic gestures of unity. Kisumu County: A Day of Walks, Awards, and Wings of Peace The Kisumu celebrations kicked off with a spirited Peace Walk from the city center to the iconic Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Stadium, drawing hundreds of participants from diverse community groups, schools, youth organizations, and peace actors. The walk symbolized solidarity and the shared journey toward a more cohesive society. At the stadium, attendees were treated to captivating cultural performances, poetry, drama, and music, all curated to reflect messages of tolerance, reconciliation, and non-violence. The energy was electric, with communities using art as a tool to communicate peace. The highlight of the Kisumu event was the Peace Champions Awards Ceremony, where outstanding contributors to peace and social cohesion were recognized by the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC). Among the honorees was the Pamoja for Transformation (P4T) team, which received a prestigious Certificate of Recognition, Trophy, and Medal for its unwavering commitment to promoting peace, dialogue, and national cohesion in Kisumu County and beyond. This recognition not only celebrates P4T’s impact but also affirms the vital role of local CSOs in sustaining peace at the grassroots level. The day culminated in a powerful symbolic gesture — the release of a white dove, representing hope, renewal, and the collective aspiration for lasting peace. The event was graced by the presence of H.E. Governor Peter Anyang’ Nyong’o and senior county officials, whose attendance underscored the County Government’s strong support for peace initiatives. Nairobi County: Amplifying Community Voices through Art, Dialogue, and Collaboration While Kisumu celebrated with color and movement, Nairobi hosted a parallel, yet equally impactful series of events centered on reflection, dialogue, and youth empowerment. At the Mathare DCC Office, the Nairobi team engaged communities through an inspiring showcase of young talents in art and design, where murals, spoken word, and visual installations communicated powerful peace messages. The event created a safe, creative space for youth to express their vision of peace not as an abstract ideal, but as a lived reality in their neighborhoods. The celebrations continued on Monday, September 22nd, with a Joint Stakeholder Reflection Forum held at the Parklands Baptist Church Hall. Organized by UNESCO-Kenya, Amani Kibera, Other CSOs, and NGAOs, the forum brought together a broad coalition of peace actors to reflect on progress, challenges, and next steps in Kenya’s peace architecture. The centerpiece of the Nairobi forum was a high-level Panel Discussion & Plenary Engagement under the theme: “Peace in Everyday Life: Voices from the Community Peace Actors — What Next?” The panel featured a diverse array of voices, ensuring inclusive representation: Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) Representative Youth Leaders Women Peacebuilders Religious Leader from the Islamic Community Refugee Community Representative Community Elders and Leaders Government Official (National and County Level) The discussion explored practical pathways to embed peace in daily interactions from households and schools to markets and places of worship. Participants emphasized the need for sustained investment in community-led peace structures, intergenerational dialogue, and policy responsiveness to local peace priorities. The event was honored by the presence of distinguished guests, including: GIZ Kenya Country Team UNESCO Kenya Representative Co-Chair, KNATCOM Representative of the DCC, Dagoretti Representative from the National Steering Committee on Peace (NSC) Their participation signaled strong institutional alignment and commitment to Kenya’s peace agenda. As part of the Resilience Peace and Stability (RPS) Program, funded by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark in Kenya through Act Change Transform, P4T has taken a significant step toward fostering sustainable development and resilience in Kisumu County. The beneficiaries during the 3-day capacity-building training in March 2025. In a recent initiative, we distributed essential toolkits to women- and youth-led climate-smart enterprises following a rigorous selection and training process. These beneficiaries underwent a comprehensive 3-day capacity-building training program focused on Entrepreneurship and Climate Security, equipping them with critical skills and knowledge to grow their businesses sustainably. The provision of these toolkits marks a pivotal moment for local entrepreneurs, enabling them to scale up production, improve efficiency, and create new employment opportunities within their communities. By supporting women and youth, the project aims to build long-term resilience, promote peace, and drive inclusive economic growth. < Back Civil Peace Service (CPS) : Bungoma County Advances Peace Policy Development Through Multi-Stakeholder Forum Location Bungoma County Location Peace & Governance Bungoma, Kenya – In a step towards fostering lasting peace and cohesion, Pamoja, through the GIZ-CPS Cooperation, supported a Multi-Stakeholder Forum aimed at advancing the development of Bungoma County’s Peace Policy. The event, held at Sawan Hotel in Bungoma , brought together key stakeholders to refine the draft policy and commit to its successful implementation. The forum provided a platform for dialogue and collaboration among representatives from various sectors, including: The County Executive Committee (CEC) The Chief Officer and Director of Public Administration A representative from the Office of the County Attorney Members of the Bungoma CSO Forum Local peace activists Media representatives Community leaders and other grassroots stakeholders Participants engaged in constructive discussions on the draft peace policy, offering valuable insights and recommendations to strengthen its framework. All parties reaffirmed their commitment to supporting the policy development process to its successful conclusion. Once finalized, the Bungoma County Peace Policy is expected to serve as a strategic tool for enhancing coordination and investment among stakeholders. Its implementation will promote social inclusion, equitable resource distribution, and greater cohesion and integration among the people of Bungoma.
