While this is a certificate course, I find it covering almost half of what we learnt at the university. I love the practical bit and I am inspired to continue to grade II and beyond in the future. This will give me an upper hand to become an examiner for technical training. I am also encouraged to finish my degree. I now have the confidence and am determined to resume my fourth-year studies with the small savings from freelancing and a token of appreciation from the YMCA.” Pamela Adhiambo Get Involved Be the first to know about our projects or programs Email SUBSCRIBE Thanks for subscribing! < Back Empowering Peace Champions: Refresher Trainings in Bungoma & Kisumu Location Bungoma and Kisumu Location Peace and Governance Strengthening Non-Violent Advocacy, Governance, and Community Resilience under the CPS Project. Building a Culture of Peace Through Strategy and Solidarity Peace is not just the absence of conflict; it is the presence of justice, accountability, and resilient communities. Recently, the CPS project convened two transformative refresher trainings in Bungoma and Kisumu counties. These five-day convenings brought together dedicated peace champions to sharpen their strategies, prioritize mental wellbeing, and design concrete interventions for real-world community challenges. Event Spotlight: Bungoma County Theme : Renewal, Digital Peacebuilding, and MHPSS Location : St. Patrick Pastoral Centre, Kabula The Bungoma Refresher Training was designed as a powerful space for collective growth. Participants moved beyond theory to unpack real community challenges, ranging from healthcare service delivery gaps to drainage disputes and road safety concerns. Key Highlights: Conflict vs. Violence : Participants sharpened their ability to distinguish between conflict and violence, designing strategic, non-violent responses to local issues. Digital & Creative Advocacy : The training explored modern avenues for peace, including digital tools, theatre, and creative expression. Centering Wellbeing : A major focus was placed on Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS). Interactive sessions on emotional awareness and Psychological First Aid created a safe space for reflection and healing. Team Bungoma The Outcome : By the close of the training, every participant had developed a practical, community-based intervention plan. The result was not just strengthened knowledge, but renewed confidence and a bold commitment to non-violent transformation. Event Spotlight: Kisumu County Theme : Strategic Analysis, Accountability, and Impact Assessment Location : Ukweli Pastoral Centre The Kisumu NVCT Refresher Training brought together 20 dedicated Peace Advocates selected through a competitive process. This training was designed to revisit past interventions, critically assess impact, and deepen accountability. Addressing Real-World Conflicts Participants utilized practical tools such as Problem Tree Analysis, Actor Mapping, and the Position–Interest–Needs framework to tackle complex local issues, including: 1. Tensions between county askaris and informal traders. 2. Political intolerance among aspirants. 3. Disputes over public facility management. 4. Competition within transport sectors. The MHPSS Integration A defining feature of the Kisumu training was the integration of Mental Health into peacebuilding. Participants explored burnout in advocacy spaces, reinforcing the understanding that sustainable peacebuilding requires emotionally resilient advocates. The Outcome : Sub-county teams left with concrete, realistic intervention plans complete with timelines, key actors, and accountability mechanisms. Post-training evaluations showed significant achievements in conflict analysis and governance advocacy. Shared Impact & Key Takeaways Across both counties, the trainings achieved more than just skills transfer; they reaffirmed the purpose of the peace champions. 1. From Reaction to Strategy : Moving beyond surface-level reactions to thoughtful, non-violent approaches rooted in dialogue and mediation. 2. Holistic Peacebuilding : Proving that technical advocacy skills must be paired with emotional resilience and mental health support. 3. Action-Oriented : Every session concluded with actionable plans ready for immediate implementation in the community. Peace and Governance This program aims to contribute to the existence and operationalization of governance framework and practices that safeguard justice, equity, the rule of law, inclusivity, cohesion, and civic participation. Through the program, we engage in policy influencing and facilitate improved civic engagements and access to justice. This program acts as the fulcrum and equilibrium that provides the impetus and Lense for supporting the development and implementation of the climate change and SED programs. The program is premised on the philosophy that; all development needs are conflict context, therefore conscious integration of peace and development through climate change and SED programming is critical. Interventions are entrenched within the governance structure at the community county and national levels since our interventions compliment and support the Government development agenda. Our Approach The program adopts an integrated, interactive approach to conflict transformation by providing tools and resources through accountable service delivery, capacity building, research, civic engagement, policy advocacy, dialogue and mediation. The interventions are pitched at both the demand and supply side of the peace and governance infrastructure. The program applies multifaceted approaches in partnership building and collaboration at both vertical and horizontal levels, by engaging stakeholders in the peace and governance sectors including national and county governments, communities and development partners to support mechanisms of preventing conflicts and creating suitable conditions for economic, social and political advancement in Kenya societies Our Impact Projects Empowering Peace Champions: Refresher Trainings in Bungoma & Kisumu Read More Marking Progress, Growing the Future: P4T Concludes Phase One of Land Access Initiative and Launches Next Chapter Read More Agri-Jobs 4 Youth Initiative: Land Access for Youth and Women in Western Kenya Read More Empowering Women and Youth-Led Climate-Smart Enterprises in Kisumu County Read More We4R: Strengthening Gender-Responsive Land Governance: P4T and GIZ–WE4R Conclude Successful BriGLAW County Engagements in Bungoma and Siaya Read More Outcome Harvesting for the Enhancing Good Governance in Kisumu and Bungoma Counties Read More Empowering Youth and Women Through Land Access: Intergenerational Dialogues in Western Kenya Read More Bungoma and Kisumu Youth Advocacy Champions Drive Dialogue for Improved Public Sanitation and Security Read More Resilience, Peace & Stability (RPS) Program Read More Celebrating Peace in Action: IDP 2025 Commemorations Unite Kisumu and Nairobi in Shared Vision for National Cohesion Read More CPS: Youth-Led Change: Empowering Communities through Nonviolent Advocacy Read More Civil Peace Service (CPS) : Bungoma County Advances Peace Policy Development Through Multi-Stakeholder Forum Read More

- Skills and Enterprise Development | Pamoja English
Skills and Enterprise Development The program's primary goal is to enhance the economic productivity of disadvantaged women and youth-led micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) through various interventions. These interventions include skills development, wealth creation, and promoting resilience and adaptation. To achieve this, the program provides a comprehensive range of support to disadvantaged women and youth. This support includes technical skills training, soft skills development, entrepreneurship knowledge, and assistance with market and financial linkages. By equipping them with these capacities, the program aims to enhance their ability to generate income, create employment opportunities, and support sustainable livelihoods. By focusing on economic independence and interdependence, the program aims to create a sustainable ecosystem that promotes market and financial access for participants. This, in turn, reduces their economic vulnerability and enhances their responsiveness and resilience at both individual and societal levels. Overall, the program seeks to empower disadvantaged women and youth by providing them with the necessary skills, knowledge, and resources to improve their economic productivity. Through the creation of income-generating opportunities, employment, and sustainable livelihoods, the program aims to contribute to their economic independence, reduce vulnerability, and enhance their overall well-being. Our Approach The program is anchored on the SME LOOP Business Training and Coaching model which is designed to support small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in increasing and sustaining employment and income generation. The model takes a systematic approach by targeting various value chains and implementing a customized cyclical capacity building process. The program combines coaching cycles with credit facilities, which are guaranteed through a toolkit. This allows SMEs to access financial resources for their business operations. Additionally, the model focuses on facilitating linkages to market opportunities, enabling SMEs to reach potential customers and expand their business networks. The program also emphasizes the importance of exchange and learning platforms for knowledge growth and peer support. SMEs can participate in workshops, seminars, and networking events, where they can share experiences, learn from industry experts, and collaborate with their peers. In addition to business training and coaching, the program delivers technical and vocational skills that are relevant to the job market. These skills aim to equip individuals with the necessary capabilities to either become valuable employees or start their own businesses. The program also includes trade tests or assessments to validate the skills acquired by participants. - Climate Resilience Program | Pamoja English
Climate Resilience Program This program aims at building a climate resilient phenomenon as well as foster mitigation through community and national capacity development of climate actions to deal with the impacts of climate change. Our Approach The program is premised on an integrated approach that promotes sustainable agriculture, circular economy in developing capacities of women and youth led SME’s but also invest in technological innovations that contribute to climate resilience. The program operates at the nexus between policy and action for resilience building and innovation within the green and blue economy value chains. Further, the program focuses on renewable energy sub-sector in order to foster economic growth, enhance access, affordability, availability towards food security and job opportunities while conserving the natural ecosystem. The program acknowledges that depletion of the natural ecosystem and the climatic changes not only affect the human livelihoods, but also breeds conflicts arising from unsustainable utilization of the environment and its attendant resources. Thus, scarcity of natural resources, worsens environmental conditions and increases livelihood threats by causing stiffer competition over land, pasture, water, fish, minerals and forest resources. Pamoja for Transformation empowers youth, women and men to solve problems in their communities related to violence, security and poverty. We help transform institutions and communities to move from crisis and poverty to peace and prosperity across Kenya. Improving Community Safety & Cohesion At a Glance KEY FACTS Region: Kisumu County Period: December 2016 – May 2018 Partner: Act Change Transform (ACT!) Donor: Danish International Development Agency - DANIDA CONTEXT In Kisumu county, the large numbers of unemployed youth lack access to economic opportunities as well as opportunities to participate in dialogue on issues affecting their communities. This has often resulted in violence and crimes, especially during election times. Young people are often manipulated and hired by politicians to intimidate their rivals and cause violence. Women remain largely excluded from playing an active role in conflict resolution processes. PROJECT AIM Reduce violent gang activities and violent extremism to enhance community safety. Enhance communication, collaboration and trust between the police, the county government, local politicians, the civil society and youth at risk of violence and crime. Results 2017 1’288 representatives from the national and county government, the police, the Council of Elders, the media, as well as religious, youth and civil society leaders attended a series of networking and problem-solving forums. Increased levels of trust and confidence between police and youth at risk groups leading to increased violence and crime reporting. 25 women were trained in mediation and became actively involved in mitigating land conflicts and political incitement. < Back Marking Progress, Growing the Future: P4T Concludes Phase One of Land Access Initiative and Launches Next Chapter Location Kisumu, Kakamega, Vihiga, Siaya, and Bungoma. Location Climate Resilience and Peace and Governance On October 31, 2025 , P4T , in partnership with GIZ-GFA , held the close-out workshop for the project “Enhancing Women’s Access to Land for Sustainable Economic Development in Western Kenya” at the GIZ Office in Kisumu. The event marked the successful completion of the first phase a journey defined by community engagement, policy advocacy, and transformative conversations around land rights for women and youth. Through targeted interventions, the project has raised awareness on land ownership, challenged socio-cultural barriers, and empowered marginalized groups to claim their rightful access to agricultural land. More than a conclusion, the workshop served as a springboard into the future. With the project now extended under the Agri Jobs for Youth (AJ4Y) program , P4T and its partners officially began designing the second phase of implementation . This next chapter will: Build on the successes and lessons learned from the initial phase Address identified gaps in access, equity, and legal literacy Expand outreach to include more youth and women smallholder farmers Strengthen linkages between land rights, agricultural productivity, and sustainable livelihoods By integrating evidence-based strategies and deepening community-led approaches, the new phase aims to create lasting systemic change in how land is accessed, owned, and controlled in Western Kenya. "Together, we continue to cultivate a future where every young person and woman farmer can access, own, and control land — not as a privilege, but as a right." As we move forward, P4T remains committed to advancing gender-equitable land governance and inclusive agricultural development. This is more than a project, it’s a movement toward justice, dignity, and shared prosperity. #LandRightsForWomen #AgriJobsForYouth #AJ4Y #P4TImpact #GIZKenya #YouthInAgriculture #GenderEquality #SustainableDevelopment #WesternKenya Siaya County P4T Signs MoU with Bondo Technical Training Institute View Project Siaya and Bungoma Counties We4R: Strengthening Gender-Responsive Land Governance: P4T and GIZ–WE4R Conclude Successful BriGLAW County Engagements in Bungoma and Siaya View Project Nairobi County, Kenya Resilience, Peace & Stability (RPS) Program View Project Kisumu, Kakamega, Vihiga, Siaya, and Bungoma.
