- CPS: Youth-Led Change: Empowering Communities through Nonviolent Advocacy | Pamoja English
< Back CPS: Youth-Led Change: Empowering Communities through Nonviolent Advocacy Location Kisumu and Bungoma County Location Peace and Governance Youth-Led Change: Empowering Communities through Nonviolent Advocacy Pamoja, in partnership with GIZ-CPS, continues to empower youth across Kenya to become powerful advocates for peace, accountability, and improved service delivery in their communities. Recently, two impactful Youth Sensitization Workshops on Accountability and Service Delivery were held in Kisumu and Bungoma County, bringing together passionate young leaders equipped with nonviolent advocacy skills. Kisumu County: Driving Tangible Improvements The workshop held at Jumuia Hotel, Kisumu County, gathered youth advocates who have undergone intensive nonviolent advocacy training. These young change-makers have since initiated various peaceful actions that have led to real, positive changes in their communities. Key achievements include: Restocking of essential drugs at Nyalenda Health Centre in Kisumu Central Sub-County. Restoration of non-functional security lights in several neighborhoods, enhancing community safety. These youth are now empowered to identify and address local issues independently , without direct support from Pamoja. They have also developed a strategic roadmap to guide future interventions, ensuring sustainable impact across the county. Bungoma County: Building a Culture of Civic Engagement In Bungoma County, the workshop took place at Tourist Hotel, where enthusiastic youth advocates convened to deepen their understanding of nonviolent civic engagement. The participants, trained in advocacy techniques, are now leading efforts to tackle pressing community concerns. Notable outcomes include: The County Government of Bungoma, under the Department of Environment, Tourism, Water, and Climate, has acknowledged and agreed to adopt the youth-led approach to waste management in Cheptais and Malakisi , which involved engaging traders and locals to highlight challenges and escalate solutions to other markets. Repairs of a dilapidated road in Buluma Sub-County are currently underway following a memorandum submitted by youth advocates to the County Government. Like their peers in Kisumu, the Bungoma youth advocates are now well-equipped to identify and address community issues autonomously. They too have developed a county-wide strategic roadmap to continue driving meaningful change. A New Generation of Peace & Accountability Champions Through these initiatives, Pamoja and GIZ-CPS are proving that when equipped with the right tools and mindset, youth can be powerful agents of transformation. Their work is not only improving service delivery but also strengthening trust between citizens and government institutions. We celebrate the resilience, creativity, and commitment of the youth in Kisumu and Bungoma. Together, they are building safer, more accountable, and inclusive communities — one peaceful action at a time. #YouthLeadChange #NonviolentAdvocacy #PeaceAndAccountability For more information about the RPS Program or how you can support similar initiatives, contact: info@pamoja-transformation.org Pamoja for Transformation Team Nakuru County Powering the Green Economy: Pamoja for Transformation Signs 3-Year MoU with Nakuru County and Partners for Solar PV Training View Project Nairobi Multi-Stakeholder Engagement Forum in Nairobi to Safeguard the 2027 General Elections View Project Kakamega County Outcome Harvest for the Enhancing Youth and Women Access to Land for Sustainable Economic Development in Western Kenya View Project Siaya County Technical Stakeholders Conclude Review of Draft Siaya County Land Management Policy View Project Anchor 1 Previous Next
- The Launch of Renewable Energy Mentorship Club at TUM to Empower Women in the Green Economy | Pamoja English
< Back The Launch of Renewable Energy Mentorship Club at TUM to Empower Women in the Green Economy Location Mombasa County Location Skills & Enterprise Development Mombasa, Kenya – In a groundbreaking initiative aimed at bridging the gender gap in the renewable energy sector, Technical University of Mombasa (TUM) in partnership with GIZ, WTS Foundation and P4T has launched the TUM-Renewable Energy Mentorship Club, anchored under the Directorate of TUM TVET. The program is supported by GIZ -Employment promotion for women for the green transformation in Africa (WE4D), an initiative focused on advancing women’s participation in renewable energy and sustainable development. The mentorship club seeks to inspire, guide, and empower students and graduates pursuing careers in renewable energy fields such as solar energy, e-mobility, green hydrogen energy, and bio energy technologies. With the renewable energy sector traditionally dominated by men, this initiative aims to create pathways for women to not only enter but thrive in the industry. Empowering Women in a Male-Dominated Field Despite the growing demand for skilled professionals in renewable energy, women remain underrepresented in the field. According to studies, women account for less than 30% of the global renewable energy workforce, with even fewer occupying leadership roles. The TUM-Renewable Energy Mentorship Club addresses this imbalance by providing tailored support to female students and graduates. Key objectives of the mentorship program include: 🔹 Career Guidance and Industry Exposure: The club will connect students with experienced mentors from the renewable energy sector. These mentors will provide guidance on navigating career challenges, securing internships, attachments, and employment opportunities, and overcoming gender biases in the workplace. 🔹 Building Resilience Against Gender Biases: Participants will receive training on how to cope with biases and stereotypes prevalent in male-dominated industries. Workshops on confidence-building, negotiation skills, and networking will equip women with tools to succeed professionally. 🔹 Hands-On Practical Experience: Through partnerships with industry leaders and organizations like GIZ WE4D, the club will offer practical, hands-on experience in cutting-edge renewable energy technologies. This includes exposure to solar panel installations, hydrogen fuel cell innovations, and biogas production systems. 🔹 Proposal Writing and Grant Submission Support: To foster innovation and research, the club will assist members in developing proposals for funding and grants. This will enable students and graduates to pursue further research in areas such as hydrogen energy, bioenergy, and other emerging renewable technologies. A Platform for Women-Led Innovation Speaking at the launch event, the Executive Director at P4T highlighted the transformative potential of the mentorship club. "This initiative is designed to bring practical, hands-on experience to youth and women and encourage them to join the renewable energy sector," he said. "By supporting women in this field, we are not only promoting gender equality but also driving innovation and sustainability." The club's activities will focus on creating an inclusive environment where women can confidently explore careers in renewable energy. By encouraging more women to enroll in courses related to solar energy, e-mobility, hydrogen energy, and biogas technologies, the program aims to reshape the narrative around women's roles in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) fields. < Back Resilience Peace and Stability (RPS): Empowering Youth and Women for a Greener Future: Pamoja Hosts Entrepreneurship and Climate Security Training in Kisumu County. Location Kisumu County Location Climate Resilience and Skills and Enterprise Development Kisumu County, Kenya – In a step toward fostering resilience, promoting peace, and creating sustainable livelihoods, Pamoja for Transformation , under the Resilience Peace and Stability (RPS) Program , recently hosted a transformative three-day training on Entrepreneurship and Climate Security . The event, funded by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark in Kenya through Act Change Transform, brought together women and youth-led enterprises in Kisumu County to address climate change risks, unlock green opportunities, and promote peaceful coexistence. Training Highlights: Building Skills for a Sustainable Future The training aimed to equip participants with practical skills and knowledge to manage and adapt to the growing challenges posed by climate change. Key focus areas included: 🔹 Entrepreneurship Development: Participants learned how to establish and sustain environmentally friendly businesses that align with global green economy trends. From renewable energy ventures to waste management solutions, the training highlighted innovative ways to turn climate challenges into economic opportunities. 🔹 Climate Risk Management: Through interactive sessions, attendees gained insights into identifying and mitigating climate-induced vulnerabilities. This knowledge is crucial for building resilient communities that can withstand environmental shocks and stresses. 🔹 Green Opportunities for Youth: A dedicated Youth Sensitization Forum explored emerging green opportunities in sectors such as solar energy, e-mobility, biogas, and sustainable agriculture. The forum inspired young people to pursue careers and entrepreneurship in these fields while contributing to climate action. Addressing Climate-Induced Conflicts Kisumu County, like many regions in Kenya, faces challenges related to climate-induced conflicts over resources such as water, arable land, and pasture. These tensions often exacerbate social instability and contribute to violent behavior among youth. By addressing the root causes of these conflicts, the training sought to reduce the pull and push factors that drive young people toward violence. Through dialogue and capacity-building, participants were encouraged to adopt non-violent approaches to resolving disputes and advocate for equitable resource distribution within their communities. Creating Employment Opportunities for Youth One of the program’s primary goals is to create meaningful employment opportunities for youth in Kisumu County. By integrating entrepreneurship with climate action, the initiative empowers young people to become job creators rather than job seekers. Participants left the training equipped with actionable ideas to launch or scale their businesses, contributing to both economic growth and environmental sustainability. Why This Matters Climate change is not just an environmental issue, it is a social, economic, and security challenge. By targeting women and youth, who are disproportionately affected by climate risks, this initiative ensures that no one is left behind in the transition to a greener future. Moreover, empowering women and youth is key to achieving lasting peace and stability in Kisumu County.
