Prevention of Sexualized and Domestic Violence At a Glance Das Problem Neben häuslicher und sexualisierter Gewalt gefährden Prostitution und Sextourismus viele Mädchen und Jungen an der Küste Kenias. Tabus und Traditionen machen es schwer, die sexuelle Ausbeutung zu bekämpfen. Projektziel Kinder vor häuslicher und sexualisierter Gewalt schützen. Strategie Netzwerke & Anlaufstellen für Kinder schaffen: Das Projekt stärkt die Koordination und Zusammenarbeit zwischen kenianischen Schulen, Spitälern, Kinderschutzzentren und der Polizei. Pamoja baut mit Gemeinden und der Polizei leicht zugängliche Anlaufstellen für Kinder und Erwachsene auf, damit diese professionelle Hilfe anfordern können. Mit Aufklärungsarbeit informiert Pamoja Kinder, Eltern, Lehrkräfte und Gemeindevertreter über die Rechte von Kindern und über Massnahmen zu ihrem Schutz. Dazu zählen die Vermittlung hin zu polizeilicher Hilfe sowie Schulungen für die Polizei. Results 2017 2016-2017 40 staatliche und nichtstaatliche Institutionen wurden vernetzt, um die Koordination von Massnahmen zur Bekämpfung von Gewalt gegen Kinder zu fördern. 2’886 Mädchen, Jungen, Eltern, sowie Sozial- und Sicherheitsbehörden besuchten Pamoja’s Sensibilisierungskurse und lernten Zeichen von Missbrauch bei Kindern zu erkennen. > 1 Million Haushalte wurden mit Medienkampagnen, Radiosendungen und Informationsmaterial erreicht und für Gewalt gegen Kinder sensibilisiert. Building Community Identity for Change At a Glance Location: Mombasa Duration: 2018-2019 Donor: GIZ Project activities : The one year project adopts a multilateral approach to addressing the identity violence between the youth and community in Mombasa County. These include tailor made capacity training on conflict transformative, non-violent communication as alternative to violence and trust and confidence building dialogue and actions in order to promote peaceful coexistence and the reintegration of the juvenile youth at risk into the community. These selected activities will further promote acceptance and collaboration between the community stakeholders, local government and the implementing organization in addressing the organized crime violence. Expected Results Overall goal The goal of this project is to contribute towards Kenya’s vision 2030 through enhanced security, peace building and conflict transformation. For this change to happen, a key prerequisite or precondition will be improved capacity and effectiveness of specific stakeholders including CSOs, government officials and community oversight bodies to address the worrying trend of juvenile organized criminal gangs in Mombasa County. Expected outcomes The expected outcome of this project is: Improved capacity and effectiveness of community safety to counter violent extremism and prevent the spread of organized crime in Mombasa County. Identify at least five organized juvenile groups to engage directly with the stakeholders within their communities. Enhance the capacity of local level safety structures to address emerging conflicts and forestall violence Heighten the engagement of juvenile members of the criminal groups and community safety structures to enhance trust and confidence Enhance collaboration among peace and security actors in the community in addressing the organized criminal violence Expected results Community acceptance and reintegration of the transformed juveniles Increased levels of trust and confidence between the members of the criminal groups and the community and safety stakeholders Increased capacity of the community stakeholders to address violence and conflicts

Turning the Tides through Development Cooperation Skills Development Mathews Ochieng Msumba, famously known as 'Jawaya' operates OK Garage in Kisumu. The garage is famous for all its motor vehicle services and has produced various apprentice trainees. OK garage was identified by Pamoja as an industry player in the initial phases of the S4J project to provide Motor Vehicle Mechanic trainees with attachment. The garage has had a similar arrangement of apprenticeship training with Undugu Society, among other partners. When Pamoja reached out to the garage in September 2021, we were not sure whether our concept of apprenticeship would sail through given that other development partners pay the industry players for every trainee attached, and this is not the case with our model. However, out of the usual practice of supporting the vulnerable and contributing to the empowerment of youth in Kisumu, the garage agreed to our concept." Previously, we hired spray painting machine to attend to our customer needs. The daily cost of hiring minus fuel and painter ranges between 800 – 1000 shillings. Now we don’t spend on hiring machine. In fact, we now lend out our machine to other neighbors at a cost when we do not have spray paint work. The machine brings money whether we have spray panting work or not. Even with the past arrangement with other partners, we have not had such assets given to us. We sincerely appreciate this gesture and commit to providing opportunities for the trainees to practice here” Says Jawaya." OK Garage provided attachment opportunities to 5 MVM trainees for the January–April 2022 cohort, and another 5 trainees are currently undergoing their internship at the garage. An opportunity that Jawaya describes as an avenue to give back to society and a tradition they are not letting go any time soon." In our new model of supporting a select number of industry players as they provide apprenticeships, Ok Garage was recently provided with a new heavy-duty spray painting machine in June 2022. The need for this machine was identified through our regular visits and follow-up with attached trainees and validated through Jawaya and team consent. \"As a recommendation, I urge that you consider an arrangement where you bring us fresh or new trainees.\" We train them here and you register them for NITA grade test III exams. I believe this would be the best approach for fast learners and will provide much needed practical skills from the onset." Capacity Building for MSMEs Within Mariculture Value Chains at the Kenyan Coast The overall goal of the project was to contribute to coastal economic development in an inclusive, integrated, participatory, and sustainable manner to strengthen sustainable blue economy value chains through skill development and matching. The project attached a lot of focus on milkfish, prawn, and mud crab farming as key opportunities and targeted 5 counties, Kwale, Mombasa, Kilifi, Tana River, and Lamu. This was envisaged to influence improved income and employment of women and youth and equally gravitate the coastal target group to embrace mariculture practices that effectively respond to and address sustainable climate resilience. The project was premised on the partnership of the EU and Government of Kenya (GoK) to advance the blue economy agenda through coastal development commonly known as “Go Blue” and Germany through GIZ is one of the implementing partners. The project was implemented in collaboration with the County Government Fisheries Department, CBOs, and BMUs, as well as other partnering organizations in order to encourage commercially viable fish farming practices and to promote the benefits of responsible Mari culture. The approach used integrated public and private sector investments in the Mari culture value chain with community-wide initiatives that promote employment creation, improved livelihood, increased income and food security. The project designed need-based trainings tailored to the specific needs among different target groups with an aim of enhancing smallholder commercial fish farmers with Mari culture knowledge and technical and business/financial literacy skills to help sustainably manage, grow the sector and make it more inclusive.
