< Back Enhancing Youth and Women Access to Land for Sustainable Economic Development in Western Kenya Location Kakamega County Location Peace and Governance and Climate Resilience Empowering Youth and Women: P4T and GFA Conduct Land Access Training Workshop for Community Change Agents and Farmers Service Centers Bukura, Kenya - In a significant step toward boosting agricultural development and empowering marginalized groups, P4T, in collaboration with GFA under the Agri-Jobs for Youth initiative, successfully conducted an awareness and sensitization training workshop at Bukura Agricultural Training Center (ATC). The one-day awareness and sensitization session brought together Community Change Agents (CCAs) and Farmers Service Centers (FSCs) from the five project counties: Kisumu, Kakamega, Siaya, Vihiga, and Bungoma. The workshop focused on strengthening the capacity of CCAs and FSCs with the necessary skills and knowledge to effectively facilitate community sensitization and awareness forums on land access. The primary focus of these forums will be to address the challenges faced by youth and women in accessing land for agricultural activities, ultimately aiming to increase their participation and productivity in the sector. This training is a vital precursor to the intergenerational dialogues already initiated by the project team. By empowering local community agents with information and sensitization techniques, P4T and GFA are fostering a grassroots movement to address land access issues. The expectation is that well-informed CCAs and FSCs will be instrumental in creating awareness and paving the way for constructive dialogues that can lead to tangible improvements in land access for young people and women in the region. This initiative emphasizes the commitment of P4T and GFA to not only create job opportunities in agriculture for the youth but also to address the fundamental issue of land access, which is often a significant barrier to entry and success in the agricultural sector, particularly for women and youths. The impact of this training is expected to foster greater equity and increased agricultural output across the five counties. • P&G Sucess story Felix | Pamoja English

Turning Pain into Peace Twenty six year old Felix Ochieng used to fear election season in Kenya. When he was 11, his brother Moses was almost killed during the post-election violence that broke out after the contested 2007 Kenyan Elections. After the results of the election were announced, the country was ripped apart along ethnic lines. Moses’ neighbours turned against him - they attacked him and burned his house down. He lost everything. “I was not at peace because my brother Moses almost lost his life,” Felix said. The 2022 election season was different for Felix, and for many Kenyans, in what is widely recognized as the most peaceful election in Kenya’s history. Felix was part of that success. Felix and his brother live in Mathare, an informal settlement in the Kenyan capital of Nairobi. In 2022, through USAID Kenya’s Electoral Conflicts Mitigation and Civic Education Support (ECCES) program, We trained Felix as a Peace Ambassador. Felix and other Peace Ambassadors around the country were trained to detect triggers of electoral violence, identify potential hotspots, and respond when a conflict arises. “Now, I have a way to help,” says Felix. He shares his story with others in his neighbourhood and works to prevent youth manipulation and violence by spreading anti-violence messages throughout Mathare . View More

< Back Marking Progress, Growing the Future: P4T Concludes Phase One of Land Access Initiative and Launches Next Chapter Location Kisumu, Kakamega, Vihiga, Siaya, and Bungoma. Location Climate Resilience and Peace and Governance On October 31, 2025 , P4T , in partnership with GIZ-GFA , held the close-out workshop for the project “Enhancing Women’s Access to Land for Sustainable Economic Development in Western Kenya” at the GIZ Office in Kisumu. The event marked the successful completion of the first phase a journey defined by community engagement, policy advocacy, and transformative conversations around land rights for women and youth. Through targeted interventions, the project has raised awareness on land ownership, challenged socio-cultural barriers, and empowered marginalized groups to claim their rightful access to agricultural land. More than a conclusion, the workshop served as a springboard into the future. With the project now extended under the Agri Jobs for Youth (AJ4Y) program , P4T and its partners officially began designing the second phase of implementation . This next chapter will: Build on the successes and lessons learned from the initial phase Address identified gaps in access, equity, and legal literacy Expand outreach to include more youth and women smallholder farmers Strengthen linkages between land rights, agricultural productivity, and sustainable livelihoods By integrating evidence-based strategies and deepening community-led approaches, the new phase aims to create lasting systemic change in how land is accessed, owned, and controlled in Western Kenya. "Together, we continue to cultivate a future where every young person and woman farmer can access, own, and control land — not as a privilege, but as a right." As we move forward, P4T remains committed to advancing gender-equitable land governance and inclusive agricultural development. This is more than a project, it’s a movement toward justice, dignity, and shared prosperity. #LandRightsForWomen #AgriJobsForYouth #AJ4Y #P4TImpact #GIZKenya #YouthInAgriculture #GenderEquality #SustainableDevelopment #WesternKenya Siaya County P4T Signs MoU with Bondo Technical Training Institute View Project Siaya and Bungoma Counties We4R: Strengthening Gender-Responsive Land Governance: P4T and GIZ–WE4R Conclude Successful BriGLAW County Engagements in Bungoma and Siaya View Project Nairobi County, Kenya Resilience, Peace & Stability (RPS) Program View Project Kisumu, Kakamega, Vihiga, Siaya, and Bungoma. < Back Resilience Peace and Stability (RPS): Empowering Youth and Women for a Greener Future: Pamoja Hosts Entrepreneurship and Climate Security Training in Kisumu County. Location Kisumu County Location Climate Resilience and Skills and Enterprise Development Kisumu County, Kenya – In a step toward fostering resilience, promoting peace, and creating sustainable livelihoods, Pamoja for Transformation , under the Resilience Peace and Stability (RPS) Program , recently hosted a transformative three-day training on Entrepreneurship and Climate Security . The event, funded by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark in Kenya through Act Change Transform, brought together women and youth-led enterprises in Kisumu County to address climate change risks, unlock green opportunities, and promote peaceful coexistence. Training Highlights: Building Skills for a Sustainable Future The training aimed to equip participants with practical skills and knowledge to manage and adapt to the growing challenges posed by climate change. Key focus areas included: 🔹 Entrepreneurship Development: Participants learned how to establish and sustain environmentally friendly businesses that align with global green economy trends. From renewable energy ventures to waste management solutions, the training highlighted innovative ways to turn climate challenges into economic opportunities. 🔹 Climate Risk Management: Through interactive sessions, attendees gained insights into identifying and mitigating climate-induced vulnerabilities. This knowledge is crucial for building resilient communities that can withstand environmental shocks and stresses. 🔹 Green Opportunities for Youth: A dedicated Youth Sensitization Forum explored emerging green opportunities in sectors such as solar energy, e-mobility, biogas, and sustainable agriculture. The forum inspired young people to pursue careers and entrepreneurship in these fields while contributing to climate action. Addressing Climate-Induced Conflicts Kisumu County, like many regions in Kenya, faces challenges related to climate-induced conflicts over resources such as water, arable land, and pasture. These tensions often exacerbate social instability and contribute to violent behavior among youth. By addressing the root causes of these conflicts, the training sought to reduce the pull and push factors that drive young people toward violence. Through dialogue and capacity-building, participants were encouraged to adopt non-violent approaches to resolving disputes and advocate for equitable resource distribution within their communities. Creating Employment Opportunities for Youth One of the program’s primary goals is to create meaningful employment opportunities for youth in Kisumu County. By integrating entrepreneurship with climate action, the initiative empowers young people to become job creators rather than job seekers. Participants left the training equipped with actionable ideas to launch or scale their businesses, contributing to both economic growth and environmental sustainability. Why This Matters Climate change is not just an environmental issue, it is a social, economic, and security challenge. By targeting women and youth, who are disproportionately affected by climate risks, this initiative ensures that no one is left behind in the transition to a greener future. Moreover, empowering women and youth is key to achieving lasting peace and stability in Kisumu County.
