  • SeaWeed | Pamoja English

Harnessing the Power of the Ocean for Sustainable Growth The project was implemented as a component of the European Union (EU) “Coastal Economic Development in Kenya” Programme, a partnership between the EU and the Government of Kenya (GoK) aimed at advancing the blue economy agenda through coastal development initiatives. This specific initiative focused on seaweed, a nutrient-rich aquatic plant often referred to as marine algae. Seaweed grows in oceans, seas, and freshwater bodies and plays a critical role in marine ecosystems by providing food, shelter, and oxygen. By equipping participants with practical skills and knowledge, the training aimed to: Boost Food Production: Highlighted the potential of seaweed as a highly nutritious and sustainable food source. • CPS: Youth-Led Change: Empowering Communities through Nonviolent Advocacy | Pamoja English

< Back CPS: Youth-Led Change: Empowering Communities through Nonviolent Advocacy Location Kisumu and Bungoma County Location Peace and Governance Youth-Led Change: Empowering Communities through Nonviolent Advocacy Pamoja, in partnership with GIZ-CPS, continues to empower youth across Kenya to become powerful advocates for peace, accountability, and improved service delivery in their communities. Recently, two impactful Youth Sensitization Workshops on Accountability and Service Delivery were held in Kisumu and Bungoma County, bringing together passionate young leaders equipped with nonviolent advocacy skills. Kisumu County: Driving Tangible Improvements The workshop held at Jumuia Hotel, Kisumu County, gathered youth advocates who have undergone intensive nonviolent advocacy training. These young change-makers have since initiated various peaceful actions that have led to real, positive changes in their communities. Key achievements include: Restocking of essential drugs at Nyalenda Health Centre in Kisumu Central Sub-County. Restoration of non-functional security lights in several neighborhoods, enhancing community safety. These youth are now empowered to identify and address local issues independently , without direct support from Pamoja. They have also developed a strategic roadmap to guide future interventions, ensuring sustainable impact across the county. Bungoma County: Building a Culture of Civic Engagement In Bungoma County, the workshop took place at Tourist Hotel, where enthusiastic youth advocates convened to deepen their understanding of nonviolent civic engagement. The participants, trained in advocacy techniques, are now leading efforts to tackle pressing community concerns. Notable outcomes include: The County Government of Bungoma, under the Department of Environment, Tourism, Water, and Climate, has acknowledged and agreed to adopt the youth-led approach to waste management in Cheptais and Malakisi , which involved engaging traders and locals to highlight challenges and escalate solutions to other markets. Repairs of a dilapidated road in Buluma Sub-County are currently underway following a memorandum submitted by youth advocates to the County Government. Like their peers in Kisumu, the Bungoma youth advocates are now well-equipped to identify and address community issues autonomously. They too have developed a county-wide strategic roadmap to continue driving meaningful change. A New Generation of Peace & Accountability Champions Through these initiatives, Pamoja and GIZ-CPS are proving that when equipped with the right tools and mindset, youth can be powerful agents of transformation. Their work is not only improving service delivery but also strengthening trust between citizens and government institutions. We celebrate the resilience, creativity, and commitment of the youth in Kisumu and Bungoma. Together, they are building safer, more accountable, and inclusive communities — one peaceful action at a time. #YouthLeadChange #NonviolentAdvocacy #PeaceAndAccountability For more information about the RPS Program or how you can support similar initiatives, contact: info@pamoja-transformation.org Pamoja for Transformation Team Siaya County P4T Signs MoU with Bondo Technical Training Institute View Project Siaya and Bungoma Counties We4R: Strengthening Gender-Responsive Land Governance: P4T and GIZ–WE4R Conclude Successful BriGLAW County Engagements in Bungoma and Siaya View Project Nairobi County, Kenya Resilience, Peace & Stability (RPS) Program View Project Kisumu, Kakamega, Vihiga, Siaya, and Bungoma.
