Powering the Green Economy: Pamoja for Transformation Signs 3-Year MoU with Nakuru County and Partners for Solar PV Training

Nakuru County, Kenya

In a major step towards accelerating the green transition and empowering the next generation, Pamoja for Transformation, alongside the County Government of Nakuru, Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), and the World Technical Services (WTS) Foundation, has officially signed a 3-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).

The partnership will implement the Solar Photovoltaic (Solar PV) Training Programme at the Mirera Vocational Training Centre (VTC), unlocking critical employment and green enterprise opportunities for youth and women in Nakuru County.

Driving the Green Transformation

Implemented under the WE4D (Employment Promotion for Women for the Green Transformation in Africa) Programme—funded by the Governments of Germany and Norway—the initiative is designed to equip young Kenyans with practical, industry-relevant skills. By focusing on renewable energy and e-mobility, specifically solar energy, the programme bridges the skills gap and positions young people to thrive in the rapidly growing green economy.

Impact on the Ground

The programme is already yielding tangible results at Mirera VTC. To date:

  • 50 youth and women have been successfully trained in solar energy installation and maintenance.

  • Partners have donated solar installation equipment worth KSh 3 Million to the VTC, ensuring trainees have access to modern, hands-on learning tools.

A Unified Vision for Nakuru’s Youth

The MoU signing and equipment handover ceremony was officiated at the office of the County Executive Committee (CEC) Member for Education, ICT, e-Government, and Public Communication, Hon. Zippy Wambui. The meeting was also attended by Stephen Kadenyo, Executive Director of Pamoja for Transformation, alongside representatives from GIZ and WTS Foundation.

Speaking during the event, Hon. Zippy Wambui described the initiative as a significant achievement for the county.

She reaffirmed the commitment of H.E. Governor Susan Kihika’s administration to collaborating with like-minded organizations to transform lives through education, skills training, and job creation.

"We encourage our partners to expand this programme to more Vocational Training Centres across the county, enabling more young people to benefit from the growing opportunities in the renewable energy sector," Hon. Wambui urged.

Looking Ahead: 3 Years of Green Enterprise Development

The newly signed 3-year MoU solidifies the commitment of Pamoja for Transformation and its partners to support youth employment through TVET (Technical and Vocational Education and Training) and Green Enterprise Development. Over the next three years, the consortium will work to scale the training, integrate more trainees into the green job market, and foster youth-led green enterprises across Nakuru County.

At Pamoja for Transformation, we believe that sustainable change happens when communities are equipped with the right tools and opportunities. We are proud to partner with GIZ, WTS Foundation, and the Nakuru County Government to turn the tide on youth unemployment while championing a sustainable, green future for Kenya.
